In the Grounds of the Master

The building that houses Pazo da Pena is an old manorial house, caringly restored with love, affection and elegance, furnished with the best and most modern installations.

The interior of the manor

The manor provides you with more than 700m2 of communal areas to discover, where the traditional and modern coexist to perfection, creating unique spaces with magical and inspirational atmospheres.

PATIOS

The pazo is constructed around two patios: one located in the noble part of the building, the other is found in the servants’ part of the building.

This particular distribution of Galician manors gives us beautiful spaces to revel in.

FIREPLACE

Without doubt, one of the most charming parts of the house.

Our traditional Galician kitchen, which can be found in a perfect location to enjoy a wood fire.

That we add some fine cured meats from Manazaneda and a glass of wine from our very own wine cellar, makes the experience become an unforgettable one.

SKYLIGHT LOUNGE

A beautiful lounge, highlighted by a large stone chimney and a spectacular skylight, its complete restoration was inspired by the original fresco.

LOUNGE OF THE ROCK

The “Lounge of the Rock” (Salón da Pena) is the most luxurious of the manor, which is full of relics from a bygone era that allow you to fly back through time.

Through the lounge it is possible to access the famous “Balcony of the Rock” (Balcón da Pena)

BALCONY OF THE ROCK || SOLARIUM

The “Balcony of the Rock” (Balcón da Pena) can be accessed from the “Lounge of the Rock” (Salón da Pena). It was constructed above a gigantic boulder, from which the house receives its name, from where you can enjoy marvellous views of the Macizo Central Mountain Range of Ourense.

The solarium, for its part, is one of the best places to relax in the open air and is a perfect demonstration of the connection between the manor and the nature that surrounds it.

LIBRARY || READING LOUNGE

Two very different rooms, nevertheless both are perfect spaces to relax and enjoy reading.

In the library one can find many old books, whereas from the beautifully decorated Reading Lounge, one can enjoy views of the largest Oak tree in Galicia.

CHAPEL

A small chapel dedicated to the “Immaculate Conception”.

Integrated in the noble part of the manor, one can find inside, through a small window with a crowned triangular pediment, a Christian cross.

It has a rectangular shape and possesses a baroque altar from the 18th Century, the base of which is made from gold.

CATACOMBS

From the “Patio of the Señorito” and through the laundry, it is possible to access these curious and mysterious tunnels which contain shell shaped holes to allow light to enter and for defence purposes. In order to enter the catacombs, you only need to enquire at reception.

FIELDS OF THE MANOR

We have more than 10 hectares of land to discover, hidden within them two great natural treasures and diverse constructions, typical of rural Galicia.

REBOLO DA PENA

A magical oak which is presumed to be the largest example in the whole of Galicia. It therefore forms part of the Catalogue of Native Galician Trees.

LEISURE AREAS

Do not miss out on the opportunity to wander through our fields where you will encounter various typical rural elements with their origins in the manor. For sure they will awaken your curiosity and imagination.

WELL (THE CAVE)

Completely restored and fully functional. It is possible to access the cave through a door which leads you through an illuminated tunnel which you will easily find in the high part of the field.

ETHNOGRAPHIC EXHIBITIONS

Situated in their respective buildings, independent of the main house, this network of expositions dedicated to the four jobs most rooted in the area and traditionally done by peasants, allows you to get closer to our traditional culture.

ECOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE

In our grounds and fields, you will find our ecological garden where we, for example, grow fruit for our delicious breakfast conserves or our famous apples that if you have luck, you will be able to enjoy during the season.

Also, only 4km away, are two historical vineyards which belong to the house, where still today the vines are farmed in steep and narrow terraces, something very characteristic of the wine growing region of the Ribeira Sacra, which we continue to work ecologically and by hand to produce Mencía and Godello wines. These wines can of course be found in the Wine Cellar of Pazo da Pena.
